Maths equations, written in seconds
Type a maths equation much as you would say it, or build it from the toolbar — fractions, roots, powers, sums and integrals — and copy it into your document, worksheet or web page as MathML, SVG or PNG.

A maths question a day
Here is today’s, from fxQuiz. Answer it in the same editor as above — a line of working at a time where it needs working — and it is marked there and then, with the answer and a worked solution. There is a new question every day at midnight, UK time.
A few questions a day
A teacher can set a quiz to give out its questions a few at a time — two each school day from Monday, say. Each student answers that day’s, hands them in and sees how they did; nobody sees a question before its day.
Missed a day?
The teacher chooses: a missed day’s questions can wait to be caught up on until the quiz closes, or close at the end of their day. Days begin at midnight wherever the school is.
Working, marked
Students answer in the equation editor. Each line of working is checked as well as the answer, and every student can have their own numbers, so answers cannot be shared.
fxQuiz is new, in early access with Essential, Professional and Enterprise licences. Ask us about trying it with your class.
The equations everyone needs
The formulae that come up again and again, from school to university. Each is drawn here by the same fxTeX the editor uses; Edit this equation puts it in the editor at the top of the page, ready to change and copy.

Matrices\begin{vmatrix} a & b \\ c & d \end{vmatrix} = ad - bc Writing an equation
Type it as you would say it
Letters, numbers and brackets go in as you type them, and a few keys do the rest.
- ^ a power:
x^2 - _ a subscript:
x_1 - \
\frac,\sqrt,\pi,\theta… - Tab the next empty box
Or build it from the toolbar
Fractions, roots, integrals, matrices, accents, arrows and Greek letters, a click each. The LaTeX is written for you, so nothing needs learning first.
Then take it where it is going
Into Microsoft Word as an equation you can still edit, onto a web page as MathML, or into slides and worksheets as an SVG or PNG. Every one carries its spoken text for screen readers.
Questions
How do I write a maths equation without knowing LaTeX?
Use the toolbar: choose a fraction, a root or a power, and fill in its boxes, pressing Tab to go from one to the next. The LaTeX appears as you go, and you never need to read it.
How do I get an equation into Word or Google Docs?
For Word, copy it as MathML and paste: Word makes it one of its own equations, still editable. How → For Google Docs, or anywhere that takes a picture, download it as a PNG or SVG.
Where do the daily questions come from?
From fxQuiz’s example quizzes, written by our question generator: fractions and formulae, forces and motion, algebra, and calculus. The levels take turns, so each day is different from the last.
Is it free?
Yes, for non-commercial use: study, teaching, research, or a personal site. Equations made as part of work you sell — a book, a course, a product — need a licence. How licensing works.
Try it on the real thing
The full editor is on the home page, with suggestions as you type, history and every export format. It is free for non-commercial use — study, teaching, research or a personal site. Building it into something you sell needs a commercial licence.
